66°North reveals Ljósufjöll collab with Chris Burkard
Titled Ljósufjöll, Icelandic outerwear legends 66°North have just unveiled their second collaborative collection with renowned photographer, intrepid explorer and long-standing brand ambassador Chris Burkard. Putting 66°North gear through its paces hiking and cycling in the most unforgiving environments over several years, Chris has proved the natural choice for this new design and creative role with the brand. Following months of hands‐on testing the resulting Ljósufjöll range sets out to unite functionality with style by way of a combination of fresh new silhouettes and refined versions of more familiar favourites. Working closely with the 66°North team Chris drew on core heritage styles before elevating them through his own modern lens. Choosing to infuse outdoor staples with the type of design details rarely seen on conventional technical gear the range is also dominated by earthy Autumnal tones, Making Ljósufjöll a performance‐driven collection designed for movement, layering and the unexpected turns of seasonal change that Iceland is synonymous with. Here’s what Chris had to say about his second collection:
“We wanted to bridge the Ljósufjöll collection into winter. The goal was simple – build a light and active
insulation system head-to-toe that will keep you outdoors for longer when the cold starts to creep in.
By accessing some of the best materials and fabrics on offer, we created something warmer and
lighter than I’ve ever used. In Iceland it’s always about fitting in your movement whenever the weather
gives you a window. These clothes are built for that window when the lines are blurred, and the
season starts to shift.”
