The North Face Offtrail Ultra takes ultralight exploration to the summit
Addressing the multi-faceted demands of the modern adventure runner The North Face have just released their most technical mountain running shoe to date, the Offtrail Ultra. Described by TNF as a ‘category-first innovation’ the Offtrail Ultra features a dual-density Dreambound superfoam midsole system that’s engineered to deliver exceptional comfort, rebound, and responsiveness on technical trails. Combining lightweight construction with highly responsive cushioning and a protective, mountain-ready design this next generation shoe has been tested by professionals and designed with mountain running, scrambling, steep descents, loose rock, and rugged alpine routes in mind. As Senior Global Merchandiser of Performance Footwear at The North Face Brett Rivers explained:
“Adventure running continues to evolve, with athletes pushing deeper into technical terrain and demanding footwear that can move as fast and as confidently as they do. With the Offtrail Ultra, we worked in lock-step with our athletes to innovate a new dual-density midsole design made in one molding process, without needing adhesives to bond the materials together, to provide innovative cushioning built for the demands of mountain running. The result is a responsive and protective underfoot experience that is lighter and more agile in technical terrain.”
The Offtrail Ultra’s aforementioned dual-density Dreambound nitrogen superfoam midsole system has been engineered for high rebound and long-distance comfort, whilst the integrated Screeguard stretch gaiter keeps annoying debris out of your footwear during demanding mountain efforts. Which is further enhanced by a reinforced mesh upper that also povides lightweight durability and breathability, with the updated Surface CTRL G2 outsole incorporating grippy high-traction lugs alongside a scrambling zone at the toe for added confidence on rock surfaces and control on steep and uneven terrain. Becoming the latest addition to The North Face’s (TAE inspired) Summit Trail Run collection, the Offtrail Ultra further showcases the legendary mountain brand’s commitment to equipping athletes with genuinely innovative gear for exploration, endurance, and mountain performance. Backed up by the words of TNF athlete and mountain ultra runner Zach Miller who summed up the new release with these insightful words:
“In a world of over-engineered footwear, the Offtrail Ultra stands out for its simplicity. No plates, no extreme rockers or towering stack heights– just a clean, functional design built for real mountain movement. Even its built-in gaiter is minimalist, offering a snug, sock-like fit that keeps debris out without the fuss of zippers or dials. That simplicity translates to versatility: it climbs, descends, scrambles, corners, and cruises with ease.”
