Klättermusen’s new freeride collection sends out the right Signal
Having spent an impressive five decades busying themselves with designing for the ascent, Swedish mountaineering brand Klättermusen have now turned their attention to the descent, with their first ever Freeride collection. Engineered to nvigate the distinct demands of backcountry freeride skiing and snowboarding, Klättermusen’s unique approach to protection, durability and freedom of movement has entered into a new environment and a different frequency. Dubbed ‘The Signal’, this inaugural freeride range brings with it roomier silhouettes that create space for additional layering whilst also allowing for air to move more freely within the garment system. Whilst at the same time, the kit maintains the softness, flexibility and low-noise feel we’ve come to love and expect from Klättermusen’s impeccable equipment. Central to the collection are innovative pieces such as the Meile shell system that expertly combines the brand’s proprietary waterproof ‘Cutan’ fabric with their ventilating ‘Oculus Forte’ technology, and a dusting of ‘Duracoat’ there to provide literal reinforcements. Three in-house technologies that you’ll also find in the Brage 2.0 Jacket and Salopettes, both of which have been designed to provide a non-insulated alternative for riders who prefer to build and adapt their own layering system. Alongside which you’ve got the Gimle Hoodie (a lightweight technical midlayer) and the Retina Light Seawastex Gyme, a full day technical backpack which comes in both 25 and 35 litre versions. Developed in conjunction with Klättermusen Experiences in Nuvsvåg, Northern Norway, The Signal owes a debt to the local mountain guides and their guests who all provided direct feedback after spending consecutive days in real deal Nordic mountain conditions.
