Uniting the most iconic of British outerwear heritage with the most contemporary technical Japanese craftsmanship, Barbour and norbit have joined first for their first collaborative project. With the designs driven by norbit’s guiding concept of “Field, Travel, Chill'” the menswear capsule includes outerwear, knitwear, shirting and trousers as well as accessories. Being lucky enough to see this exceptional gear in the flesh whilst visiting the main man Hiroshi Nozawa at norbit HQ in Tokyo earlier this year, I can confirm that it really is as good as it looks. Representing a real ‘field to forecourt’ combination of creative forces, the heavy hitters in the collection are undoubtedly the outerwear pieces with the Wool Jacket (inspired by the legendary Barbour Bedale) that’s crafted from two Moon’s wools in windowpane and Prince of Wales glen check. Whilst two stunning wax styles extend the range with the Long Wax Jacket, constructed from a six-ounce wax with waist drawcord, and the Ripstop Wax Jacket, which takes a more technical direction with a stand collar and rollout hood. Completing the serious jacket offering is the Quilt Jacket and hybrid 3-in-1 Casual Jacket both of which speak to the collection’s versatile, field-ready approach. Complementing this array of incredible looking outerwear you’ll also find shirts in classic Barbour checks with the all important needle-cord elbow patches, alongside lambswool funnel neck jumpers, oversized 8-wale cord trousers, a carpenter cap and a bag that magically transforms into a gilet. Though I might be a tad biased having done a collab with Barbour and my own brand a few years back myself, as well as being bezzies with Mr norbit, this is without a doubt one of the best things that both these brands have ever done.
