Peak Performance pushes the envelope on multi-material recycling
Swedish mountain gods Peak Performance have just lifted the lid on their latest piece of innovative tech in the form of the R&D Helium Loop Anorak. A striking looking down jacket that completely redefines what end-of-life recyclability looks like when it comes to technical outerwear. Where previously multi-material garments (especially those insulated with natural down) had been nigh on impossible to recycle due to the difficulty in separating them at the end of their lifecycle, the R&D has solved this patchwork problem. Developing the anorak in close collaboration with NetPlus, ALLIED Feather + Down, Resortecs, and PERTEX this Peak Performance showstopper also features Resortecs’ Smart Stitch. Which is a heat-dissolvable thread that enables the jacket to be deconstructed cleanly and efficiently when the times comes for it to be recycled. Using controlled heat the process enables the stitching to melt away thus allowing for the down plumes and fabric membrane to be separated then recycled individually. An impressive achievement that marks a genuine jump forward in terms of circular design in technical apparel with zero compromise when it comes the performance levels too. In fact the 850-fill RDS down and PERTEX Quantum NetPlus shell deliver ultralight warmth, durability, and PFAS-free DWR proves that circularity can actually enhance the design rather than hinder it.
