Good guys 66°North go Glacial this Black Friday
Similar to Heimplanet’s impressively ethical stance on Black Friday this year, Icelandic outdoor legends 66°North have rolled out their ‘Glacier Firday’ initiative for the seventh year in a row. Having already donated 7.5 million ISK (approx. £45,150) to glacier research to date through the initiative, Glacier Friday invites customers to consider the environmental legacy we leave for future generations by choosing thoughtful purchasing over fast-consumption culture. Since it’s inception, the funds raised have gone on to support the Icelandic Glaciological Society and enabled vital research in helping fill critical gaps in the monitoring and preservation of Iceland’s glaciers and their uncertain future. With Support from Glacier Friday making it possible to study smaller, under-monitored glaciers across the country, creating a more complete national picture of glacier change and safeguarding historical records that would otherwise have been lost. Looking to the future under current climate conditions, several well-known glaciers, including Hofsjökull East, Þrándarjökull, Torfajökull and Kaldaklofsjökull may disappear entirely within the coming decades. Tragially since 2000, dozens of smaller glaciers have already vanished across Tröllaskagi, Flateyjarskagi and the Eastfjords. Making it more important than ever for 66°North to show their heartfelt support for this research and help raise awareness of these frightening statistics.
