Outlander enjoys a dip at the Blue Lagoon with 66°North
Maybe it’s due to the somewhat erratic weather patterns we’ve been experiencing, or perhaps because we’ve entered into shell jacket season but I’ve been thinking a lot about the unique country that is Iceland lately. Which in turn, makes me think about the brilliant Icelandic brand 66°North and the unique way in which they celebrate their legacy via the uniquely dramatic landscape and population that formed them. Just like a change in the weather in their homelands, it feels like you’re never too far away from an exciting collaborative project with 66°North. Their latest cultural coming together being with uber cool contemporary fashion & art mag Outlander, with whom they have created a rather splendid capsule collection that celebrates a century-long lineage of making exceptional Icelandic outerwear.
Shot at the dreamlike Blue Lagoon, the campaign enlisted an unconventional cast of Icelandic personalities including a builder, dancer, marketing specialist and the 66-year-old former Head of the Icelandic Academy of the Arts. Shot by renowned Icelandic photographer Mats Wibe Lund, 89, the age gap was expanded with some behind-the-scenes imagery captured by six-year-old Unnur Rajani (daughter of a 66°North designer) with 66°North using their gorgeous gear as as the perfect excuse to bring two generations of Icelandic image-makers together. Consisting of a limited-edition shell jacket and trousers, heavyweight organic cotton T-shirt and 100% Icelandic wool blanket the four-piece capsule reimagines 66°North’s Dyngja Shell using Outlander’s distinctive graphic language. With further design inspiration coming from 66°North’s early-2000s archive, the technical pieces feature 10,000mm waterproof protection, reflective piping and an embroidered map of Iceland across the back, while colour palettes reference the contrasting landscapes of the Blue Lagoon and Iceland’s volcanic soil.
The collab drops today and for those of us not able to hop on a flight to Reykjavik, 66°North are bringing the restorative experience of the Blue Lagoon to their Regent Street flagship during London Fashion Week. Where guests can explore the collection as well as the Blue Lagoon skincare range, whilst enjoying restorative massages and drinks by Malik Acid, served with ice cubes that naturally transform each drink from light blue to deep blue. Just like the country itself, 66°North don’t do things the conventional way, even when it comes to collabs. Their ability to combine nature, culture and cool designs into their high performance products is why we love this truly unique brand so much at Outdoor Licence.
