Thule go big at GO Outdoors

Just when you think the beautiful city of York can’t get any better with it’s beautiful winding lanes, experiential viking museum and host of craft beer bars they go and open up Europe’s biggest outdoor shop there too. If you’ve ever found your self having a pre/post ISPO mooch around Munich’s impressive Globetrotter store and thinking ‘why haven’t we got one of these in the UK?’ then rest easy because now we have. Perched just on the outskirts of town and set on two humungous floors the new GO Outdoors store pretty much contains everything you need for any adventure you can dream up, from a chilled out fishing trip to an ascent of K2. Alongside your usual heavy hitters the store also features loads of unique space like a TISO concession, an Ordnance Survey area complete with trig point and digital map and a 3D foot measuring machine. Lucky enough to be there on the opening day I spent most of my time hanging with the brilliant staff at Thule’s impressive area admiring their wonderful Swedish wares. Between having a little lie down in one of their roof tents, trying on lots of different backpacks, testing the turning points on their prams and checking out the dog cages for size (yes the big ones fit me) it’s fair to say I really made myself at home. Suffice to say if you’re anywhere near York and love the outdoors then you really need to get down there and check this place out with your own eyes and of course make a B line for Thule as soon as you’ve had a go on their life size horse riding simulator.
