Surf the net in Passenger’s new ocean-friendly shorts

Now that the sun has come back out and Summer holidays are starting to be booked or even taken it’s time to consider your shorts options. No I’m not talking about Ouzo or Raki, I mean the ones you wear down to the beach or to swim in and fortunately our pals at Passenger have just released a collection that’s been constructed (in conjunction with Bureo) from NetPlus fabric. Which, despite sounding like a new type of credit card is actually an amazing material made from fully traceable, post-consumer recycled fishing nets. The NetPlus recycling program uses discarded nets sourced directly from fishing communities before they can cause any damage to out precious marine ecosystems and in this case used to create some banging pairs of boardshorts. There’s no compromise on quality either as NetPlus mirrors the properties of virgin plastics, meaning that the high levels of durability, performance and longevity you’d expect from Passenger remain the same. It makes perfect sense that if you’e going to be enjoying some time in the sea this Summer then you should be doing it wearing something that helps deal with discarded fishing nets. A sentiment backed up by Passenger’s menswear designer Hannah Jamieson, who had this to say about the new collection: “It’s always our aim at Passenger to use more responsible, recycled fabric options. When designing our new boardshorts, we wanted to find a fabric that was quick drying, durable, and more sustainable. We love what Bureo is doing with turning recycled fishing nets into fabric, so we’re really pleased to be using NetPlus as the main fabric in our boardshorts and all-purpose shorts instead of virgin polyester.” Top marks to Passenger for being the first UK brand to use NetPlus fabric and hopefully more brands will take their lead.
