Have a blast with the Lifesystems Mountain Whistle
Whilst it’s one piece of kit that you hope you’re never going to need, having a decent whistle with you when you’re up in the mountains is a no-brainer. If you come a cropper whilst out on a hike or get lost on a misty moorland run and your modern technology has stopped functioning this tried and tested method could well save your life. The Lifesystems Mountain Whistle is an ideal choice if you’re yet to equip yourself with one of these absolutely essential accessories, which has also made me think about upgrading from the plastic teachers whistle that I currently have at the bottom of my backpack. Made from made a tough but lightweight aluminium alloy this inexpensive bad boy boasts an impressive 100dB sound and attaches to the outside of your pack via an intergrated keyring too. Just remember if you do find yourself needing to use a whistle to let people know where you are, the rule is to do 6 short blasts at one minute intervals. Unless of course you’re at Notting Hill Carnival or a Hacienda reunion then I’d suggest riding the rhythm at around 120bpm.
