If you’re unaware of the bike riding legend that is Tom Ritchey then you really need to get your hands on ‘One Ride Away From Figuring It Out’, and conversely if you are aware of his long lasting legacy then you too also need to cop for a copy of this brilliant book. A teenage racing and frame-building prodigy who changed the mountain bike game with a string of innovative designs by the age of 22, Tom has finally sat down to write a book lifting the lid on the early days of the mountain biking scene and his pivotal role in it. Featuring fascinating stories and images from his personal archive the book covers Tom’s early life in Palo Alto riding road bikes off-road as a teenager before meeting Joe Breeze and kick-starting a global mountain-biking revolution. As well as his personal reawakening in Rwanda, Tom also shares his unique perspective on the heady early days of mountain bike racing. Detailing the highs and lows of business in the 1980s as American and Japanese companies vied for the top spot whilst taking the bike industry by storm. Part business manual and part autobiography ‘One Ride Away..’ is also illustrated by some stunning photography from the Ritchey archives. Including key documents and catalogues as well as brand new studio images of some of Tom’s most beautiful, influential and historic bicycles.
