Filming the Path to Recovery with National Trails UK

As you may or may not know as well as being a copy-writer, PR manager, panel talk host and model (stop laughing) I also direct videos. Having made promos and ads in the past for such highly esteemed outdoor brands as KEEN, Haglofs, Sprayway, Berghaus, The North Face, Mammut and Patagonia I also worked in production at ITV, BBC, Channel 4 & SKY for over twelve years. My most recent gig was a commission from the brilliant people at National Trails who got me in to shoot, direct and edit a short film about the work that has been just up the road from me at Black Hill that makes up part of the legendary Trans Pennine Trail. Blessed with a break in the horizontal rain and dense mist the day was a joy from start to finish as I got to interview representatives from the various partnerships involved in restoring the area. They were a lovely bunch and speaking to them caused me to stop and re-evaluate all the places I go on my hikes that I’d previously just assumed ‘existed’ without thinking about the people responsible for putting them there and maintaining them. So the next time you’re out enjoying the great outdoors it’s worth bearing in mind and raising your flask to the brilliant people out there like National Trails responsible whose work prevents us from going down up to our waists in mud when taking a selfie.
